MESSAGE OF HIS EXCELLENCY IDB CHAIRMAN FATIH ULUSOY ON THE SUBMISSION OF MILF LIST OF COMBATANTS AND WEAPONS FOR THE 3RD PHASE OF DECOMMISSIONING

19 December 2020, IDB Headquarters, Cotabato City

Assalamu Alaykum!

On behalf of the Independent Decommissioning Body, I would like to congratulate the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front for reaching another significant milestone today on the progress of the implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro, with the submission of the MILF list of combatants and weapons to the IDB.

I am deeply honored to take part in this moment as we embark into the next phase of the Bangsamoro normalization process. We are especially grateful to the MILF for their relentless efforts towards fulfilling their commitment.

Today’s event commences the important task of decommissioning which allows the transition of the combatants to productive civilians. IDB, as the mechanism mandated to oversee the decommissioning of MILF, has long been preparing to ensure that this process will be dealt with utmost professionalism, integrity and confidentiality.

Despite the current pandemic, we have established necessary methodologies to guarantee that our work will be done efficiently. In doing this, we will closely work with the different normalization mechanisms in the coming phase of decommissioning and together, we aspire that this will pave way for transition and a new life and hope for the combatants.

We encourage the parties to maintain the positive momentum and progress towards a lasting peace in Mindanao.

IDB remains grateful and acknowledges the continued support of its local and international partners who contributed in maintaining the positive momentum and progress towards a just and lasting peace in Mindanao.

In closing, let me reiterate the continuing commitment of the IDB member countries - Governments of Turkey, Norway and Brunei Darussalam, in supporting the Bangsamoro peace process in the hopes of bringing lasting peace not only in the Bangsamoro but in the entire Philippine nation as well.

Wassalam!
